The lead up to the start of term requires a lot of preparation, and this year for me personally, it sees 3 of my children starting in new schools and 1 starting a new year while my wife also begins a new job.

One of the things on the checklist for a new term, is always new school uniform, alongside bags, stationery, and perhaps books as you get more advanced in your studies.

However a new school uniform, never fails to mask the inner questions.

• Are you excited about the possibilities or fearful of the unknown?

• Are you looking forward to meeting new people, or fearful of fitting in?

• Do you see this as the opportunity to learn new things or see it as an exposure of what you don’t know?

School is not that different to life in general, and you can do more than just turn up or do the bare minimum!

From your school days,  your desire may have been to blend in at the beginning,  but God’s purpose for you, is for you to perform at the highest level.

Whether you have no belief at all, have a sense of spirituality, or are very firm in the religion you participate in, the new term experience is common to us all, and the task is for us to get the tools we need to succeed.

For those of you that dont know, the film features Will Smith as a super-hero who in spite of his obvious natural ability as a superhero, does not retain the public’s affection or acceptance in the same way that a Superman or Batman effortlessly do.

Hancock’s biggest problem is that he struggles to keep him emotions in check, and marry them with his natural gifts as a superhero. As a result his best intentions end up being a hinderance rather than a help.

Our emotions are very valuable indicators, but they were not designed to be the foundation upon which will build our thoughts and actions because emotions are subject to change.

When Hancock learnt to exhibit self control, and an awareness of himself and others, we see the transformation from the character on the left, who is self absorbed, angry and whimsical at best, to the character on the right, who is disciplined, passionate and focused on getting the right result.

You too are a superhero, and it starts with learning 3 invaluable skills:

1. Discipline your disappointments
2. Raise your expectations
3. Pull your own strings

‘I am a creative person, but should I  just forget it?’

Lets face it, not every bathroom singer will be the next Mariah Carey, nor will every small businessman become the next Richard Branson, but everyone has something that causes them to stand out from the crowd, and it helps to know where desires come from, so you can handle them appropriately.

Ask yourself these 3 questions:

1. What do I do that I would do free of charge?
2. What do I enjoy doing so much, that the time passes by without me knowing?
3. What do I do that people readily recognise as my X-Factor?

The word Desire when broken down contains two key elements:

De- of    Sire- Father

Desire- Of the Father

Your desires were placed in you long before you knew, and as your life unfolds, it is supposed to be gradual reawakening to your purpose and a realisation of your desires.

Some people choose to ignore their desires, some blame everything from circumstance to a lack of time and money, but there is another choice.

You can go to work diligently on developing your desire, through practice, focus and the development of your skills.

One man said it takes 10 years to become an overnight success, another man said ‘Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the DESIRES of your heart’.

And why wouldn’t he?

He placed your desires there in the first place!

Irrespective of your life circumstances, a pattern or process of thinking is responsible for the results that you have gained up until this point.

We all have an inbuilt desire to do better and achieve more. It can be as big as wanting to lose weight or as small as wanting to be a millionaire. You may think that I have got the measurement of these goals the wrong way around, in fact both goals require the same set of skills and requirements, the fundamental of which is DISCIPLINE.

A paradigm is a set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitute a way of viewing reality.

Paradigms definitely do not die easily and the weapons your old thinking will use to hold you back in life have awesome potential power.

Your old paradigm, which is more commonly referred to as your “old conditioning,” will fight you. In fact, you’re old conditioning will put up a tremendous battle.

Amongst the main culprits are DOUBT, FEAR, and ANXIETY. Between them, they have the power to bring your progress to an abrupt halt right at the point you are making the decision to make your move.

This is how they work together: doubt creeps in and causes the fear, which in turn then causes the anxiety.

The three can strike at lightening speed so be ever alert to their trickery or in other words: Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it flows the issues of life! Proverbs 4:23

Of the 12 spies 10 returned saying mission impossible, with 2 saying we can definitely do this.

The 10 that returned with a negative report told tales of giants and insurmountable hurdles, and specifically they said ‘we looked like grasshoppers to them’.

Their perception of what they could achieve and their own abilities were reduced by because of the way they looked at themselves.

Your attitude determines your altitude or your perception of you determines what you think you are capable of achieving.

The world now more than ever, needs people who are prepared to live lives on their own terms and express the gifts that are unique to them.

Can one person make a difference?

Of course you can!

There will never be another, better, or more unique person than you.

If faith is all you have, be grateful because faith is all you need. “According to your faith be it unto you.” Matthew 9:29

With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use to illustrate and explain it?

It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all seeds upon the earth;

Yet after it is sown, it grows up and becomes the greatest of all garden herbs and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air are able to make nests and dwell in its shade.

What then is the single greatest barrier to thinking correctly?

Taking the time to pause, reflect, choose, decide and then act on what we think.

We are creatures of habit and as such, over 80% of our thinking is reflex, based on past experience and old habits.

So if you are wondering why you have always go the same results, its as a result of always thinking the same way.

Creating abundance will only come from thinking abundance on an ongoing, intentional and determined way.

So here are some simple steps to get you started:

1.Intelligently formulate your desire for the things which make for a larger life

2.Get these desire arranged into a coherent whole

3. Meditate on what you desire often!
