The Suzuki Method

about suzukiWhat is the Suzuki Method?

The Suzuki Method is based on the principle that all children possess natural ability, and this ability can be developed and enhanced through a nurturing environment.

Where does Suzuki originate? It all began with the Japanese violinist Dr Shinichi Suzuki, who noticed  that the natural way of teaching children a native language is a fantastic educational process.

Dr Suzuki broadcasted this method in the world as the most effective way to develop individual talents of a child. He chose music to shape the inside.

By playing an instrument he wanted to influence and grow ability to concentrate, logical thinking, memory, imagination and self- discipline.

His concern was also for the child to feel valued, accepted, unique – not being compared with others. He focussed on creating the right conditions where the child finds constant motivation to improve learnt skills. He never put any pressure on students to become professional musicians but did not discourage anybody from becoming one.

Some of the main principles of  The Suzuki Method are:

  • parental involvment
  • early beginning
  • listening
  • repetition
  • encouragement
